The Town Hall of La Aldea de San Nicolás and the Cabildo de Gran Canaria have paid tribute to Pedro Navarro Rodríguez, affectionately known as 'Ico', with the inauguration of a statue that celebrates his legacy in the preservation of the cultural heritage of the municipality.
Last Friday, in a moving ceremony held in front of the Carmita Afonso School Museum, located in Plaza La Alameda, a statue dedicated to Pedro Navarro Rodríguez , an emblematic figure and beloved resident of La Aldea, was unveiled. With an investment of over €32.000 , this work seeks to immortalize Ico's unwavering commitment to the traditions of La Aldea.
Throughout his life, Ico was known for his tireless dedication to the preservation and promotion of local cultural heritage. He actively participated in significant events such as the Taifas Dance , the Three Kings' Play , the Traditional Carnival , and the Year Cycle . He was also a key figure in the development of the Living Museums project. During the ceremony, it was emphasized that "this statue is a well-deserved recognition not only of his tireless work, but also of all those who, like him, have worked to preserve the soul of La Aldea."
The sculpture not only represents a tangible symbol of the municipality's memory and cultural legacy, but also aims to inspire future generations to continue to value and spread the customs that form an integral part of La Aldea's intangible heritage.
