A 77-year-old woman has died after being rescued from the sea at Pozo Izquierdo Beach, in Santa Lucía de Tirajana
On Thursday afternoon, a 77-year-old woman was found floating in the sea, face down, at Pozo Izquierdo Beach, located in the municipality of Santa Lucía. The alert was received through the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 112 of the Government of the Canary Islands at 17:20 p.m., reporting that lifeguards on the beach were carrying out resuscitation manoeuvres after discovering the woman in cardiorespiratory arrest.
CECOES immediately activated the necessary resources, including a basic life support ambulance and a medicalized ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), as well as units from the Local Police and the Civil Guard.
Despite the efforts of rescuers and SUC staff, who applied advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, the victim could not be revived and her death was confirmed on the spot.
The Civil Guard has taken custody of the body, awaiting the arrival of the judicial authorities, and is instructing the corresponding proceedings regarding this tragic event. The Local Police also actively collaborated with the emergency operation deployed in the area.
