The Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council and the Government of the Canary Islands will invest more than 6 million euros in the construction and rehabilitation of social housing, with projects scheduled to be completed before June 2026
Santa Lucía de Tirajana, October 25, 2024. The City Council of Santa Lucía de Tirajana is committed to giving more land to the Government of the Canary Islands for the construction of social housing, thus seeking to meet the growing demand in the municipality. The mayor, Francisco García, met this Friday with the General Director of the Canarian Housing Institute, Antonio Ortega, to evaluate the progress of projects on land already ceded, where the construction of 26 homes in Casa Pastores and 8 on Calle Severo Ocho is planned, in addition to the rehabilitation of 73 homes in Sardina. The Councilor for Housing, Mario Bordón, also participated in the meeting.
The budget for the projects, which has been increased thanks to the incorporation of European Next Generation funds, amounts to 5 million euros for the construction of new homes and 1,6 million for rehabilitation works. According to Antonio Ortega, these interventions must be completed before June 2026. Mayor Francisco García reaffirmed the City Council's willingness to continue collaborating and to cede more land if necessary, with the aim of promoting the supply of protected housing in the town and throughout the Canary Islands.
The Councillor for Housing, Mario Bordón, indicated that the meeting also addressed the technical and financial collaboration of the Canary Islands Housing Institute in the preparation of the first Municipal Housing Plan, which seeks to consolidate a broader and more sustained framework of action to respond to housing needs in the municipality.
