Ingenio and the Carrizal Social Justice Platform present a new route for the electric cable, seeking to protect the historic center.

The Ingenio City Council, together with the 'Justicia Social Carrizal – El Cable por el Barranco' Platform, yesterday presented an alternative route for the high-tension cable at an event held in Plaza del Buen Suceso, in Carrizal. This new design has the support of public institutions and the owners of the affected land, and seeks to avoid the impact on the historic centre of the neighbourhood. The alternative was presented to REDEIA (Red Eléctrica) in a last-ditch effort to maintain the integrity of this historic space.

The mayor, Vanesa Martín, said that the people of Carrizal “have always fought for a single route, the ravine”, highlighting the community's commitment to defending its history and quality of life. The Councillor for Urban Planning, Rayco Padilla, explained that the new route avoids the narrow streets of the historic centre and takes advantage of land on the western edge of the Barranco de La Alcantarilla. The City Council has pledged its technical and logistical support to facilitate the execution of this plan, ensuring that the conditions of the land and public services are preserved during the works.

This proposal has had the collaboration of three families who, in solidarity, have given up their land to allow the cable to pass through without affecting the town centre. The Councillor for Agriculture and Livestock, Catalina Sánchez, praised the support of these families, mentioning Joaquín Guedes and Esteban Marrero as examples of community commitment. From the Carrizal Social Justice Platform, José Luis Sánchez thanked these owners and appealed to REDEIA to study and accept this proposal, prioritising the protection of the history and heritage of Carrizal.
