Maritime Rescue has rescued a cayuco with 71 migrants on board in waters near Maspalomas. The boat was escorted to the port of Arguineguín, where emergency services attended to its occupants.
The Salvamar Macondo vessel of the Maritime Rescue Service has carried out a rescue operation this morning, intercepting a cayuco near the beach of Maspalomas, south of Gran Canaria. The vessel, which was carrying 71 people of sub-Saharan origin, was detected near the coast, where the Salvamar Macondo proceeded to escort it to the port of Arguineguín.
Upon arrival, all occupants received medical assistance and basic aid from emergency services, following the protocol for assisting migrants in maritime rescue situations. The authorities have not provided additional information on the health status of the occupants.
This incident reflects the intensification of the migratory flow on the Atlantic route, which continues to consolidate itself as one of the main routes of arrival of migrants towards the Spanish coasts.
