Great outrage on social media after the release of a video of the incident
On October 23, the Civil Guard in Gran Canaria arrested a 25-year-old man, accused of a crime against moral integrity and material damage, after being involved in an incident on a public service bus belonging to the company Global. The events, which took place on October 14 at the Las Majoreras bus stop in the municipality of Ingenio, were captured on video by transport users and disseminated on social networks, causing a significant impact and indignation among citizens.
At the time of the incident, the detainee, who was travelling as a passenger on a Global bus, threw the contents of a soft drink can on the driver, hitting her and causing damage to the vehicle. The Civil Guard began the investigation after receiving a complaint from the driver, who reported that while she was travelling between Puerto de Mogán and Las Palmas, she asked the passenger not to get on with an open drink. In response, the individual rebuked her for the warning and threw the soft drink on her, completely wetting her and damaging the controls of the bus.
The video of the incident, recorded by other passengers, quickly circulated on social media, generating reactions of rejection and concern among the population of Gran Canaria.
Investigation and judicial proceedings
The Civil Guard at the Main Post in Agüimes took over the investigation to identify the alleged aggressor and assess the damage to the vehicle, which exceeds 500 euros. He is charged with two crimes: one against moral integrity, considering that the action constituted degrading treatment towards the driver, and another for material damage to a means of public transport.
The proceedings were forwarded to the Court on Duty of the Judicial District of Telde, where a quick trial was held to resolve the case.
