Nueva Canarias – Bloque Canarista defended in the ordinary plenary session held yesterday Thursday 31st October in Mogán, a motion for the “Reactivation of beach showers with a sustainable and intelligent system”, with the aim that the council studies the installation of showers and footbaths for the beaches of the municipality, using salt water and/or intelligent systems.
The spokesman, Javier Romero, stated in the content of the motion that Mogán had taken the decision to cut off the water supply to the showers on the beaches, as well as to reduce the water consumption in gardens at the end of June this year due to the current water shortage.
He also recalled that Mogán City Council has taken charge of the seasonal services of most of the municipality's beaches, and has not yet sought sustainable management and/or use of shower water.
The councillor assures that taking charge of the seasonal services on the beaches does not mean placing hammocks and umbrellas and charging users, it also means keeping the beaches clean, in good condition, with lifeguards and all kinds of services such as showers and footbaths.
Several studies have established that there is no higher quality index in the services of a beach than the existence and use of showers and footbaths with water. The lack of this service causes the elimination of between 20 and 30 grams of sand per bather, the existence of sand on the promenades and in hotels or apartments, the use of plastic containers that bathers use to fill them with water and throw water on themselves when leaving the beach, with the generation of garbage and the use of plastics.
There are currently several types of sustainable showers, from those with a foot pressure jet system and bottle refill, smart showers that are activated by the presence of people without the need to press a button, and are controlled remotely from a central unit, to the usual shower, but supplied with salt water, which is desalinated by a desalination plant on the beach.
“With this agreement, Mogán will study the possibility of installing sustainable showers and footbaths on its beaches, providing the municipality with better services, worthy of the quality that the Mogán destination deserves,” said the spokesperson.
