Yilenia Vega: “More than 450 screens distributed throughout London will broadcast a video of Maspalomas that will impact more than 700.000 tourists and residents
Alejandro Marichal: “Before the end of the year we will sign an agreement with the Government of the Canary Islands to take charge of the drafting and processing of a new Modernisation Plan for Maspalomas”
Marco Aurelio Pérez: “London is the perfect place to invite tourists as loyal as the British to experience the magic of Maspalomas and its carnival”
The Department of Tourism of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council has launched a spectacular promotional campaign on the streets of London to attract British tourists to one of the most vibrant and eagerly awaited events on the island: the Maspalomas International Carnival. Coinciding with the celebration of the London Tourism Fair, which takes place from 5 to 7 November, the campaign entitled “Carnival, Sun and Sand. Feel Maspalomas” seeks to capture the attention of Londoners and visitors, inviting them to immerse themselves in the unique experience of sun, sand and the tradition of the carnival in the south of Gran Canaria.
The promotion, which will run for seven days, consists of the broadcasting of visual content through 455 digital screens located in strategic areas of the city, such as the busy Victoria Station and the iconic Piccadilly Circus. The Councillor for Tourism, Yilenia Vega, explained in front of the screen located in Piccadilly Circus that “the campaign is expected to generate 700.000 impressions, an exceptional visibility that will project images of Maspalomas Costa Canaria and the emblematic Carnival, offering a preview of the festive atmosphere and natural beauty that characterise this destination”. The promotional strategy, Vega continued, includes both video and display formats, “which will allow London passers-by to discover, right on the street, the charm of Maspalomas Costa Canaria”.
Yilenia Vega stressed that the action is part of the 1.2 million Euro investment planned to promote the tourist destination and “the determined commitment by this council to renovate the public spaces in our tourist city”. For this reason, we are currently carrying out works worth more than 7.6 million Euros, through the Maspalomas Tourism Consortium, improving access to our beaches, the Toboplaya slope and the Palmeral Oasis. In addition, we have transferred nearly 8 million Euros from the Department of Tourism for three new projects that will transform the Costa Canaria promenade from the Tropical Shopping Centre to the Beach Club; the refurbishment of the surroundings of the Barranco de Maspalomas; and the creation of a pedestrian avenue with a cycle lane from El Hornillo to Pasito Blanco.

For his part, the First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal, announced during the development of the WTM that during the remainder of the year an agreement will be signed with the Government of the Canary Islands so that the public company GESPLAN will be in charge of drafting and processing a new Modernisation Plan for Maspalomas Costa Canaria. The purpose of this PMM is to grant urban incentives for our accommodation plant and shopping centres, as well as to allow the compatibility of uses in the commercial plots with others such as sports, accommodation or social health in order to make it more attractive for the private sector to undertake investments that ultimately allow the renovation of our commercial areas.
The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, and the Councillor for Culture, Elena Álamo, also travelled to London; accompanied by two of the most representative figures of the Maspalomas Carnival: the Queen of the Maspalomas International Carnival 2024, Dayanara Hernández, and the Drag Queen, Drag Tamito, Aythami Santana.
Regarding the actions to be carried out by the Department of Tourism, the Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, highlighted the importance of this promotional action in the British capital, given that “London is the perfect place to invite a tourist base as loyal as the British to experience the magic of Maspalomas and its carnival. We want them to feel attracted by the welcoming spirit of Maspalomas Costa Canaria when they see these images of our carnival, our beaches and our surroundings.”
