The XXI Southeast Fair opens its doors with tradition, flavor and the soul of our crafts

The XXI Feria del Sureste kicked off this Friday, November 8, on Avenida de Canarias, in Vecindario. From 10:00 a.m. you could already visit the different stands of farmers, ranchers and craftsmen. The inauguration of this unique event in the southeast region was attended by the president of the Mancomunidad del Sureste and mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García; the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales; the councilor for Economic Development and Crafts, Minerva Alonso; the mayor of Ingenio, Vanesa Martín and the councilor for Local Development of Agüimes, Catalina Suárez. They were also accompanied by councilors from the different municipalities. 

 

At the opening, the political representatives, together with Juan Pérez, president of Ascoive, gave their speeches, highlighting the local production of the three municipalities, as well as the participation of the folklore groups, and, in particular, they made mention of the work of Carmensa García, a Cáritas collaborator, for her hard work in the region to help the most disadvantaged families. In addition, Conciencia Urbana closed with an improvisation made with the words offered by the authorities. 

 

After this, they went to visit the stalls at the fair, paying attention to everything that farmers, ranchers and artisans have to offer: top quality, fresh, local products, as well as artisan products that exude tradition, keeping our roots alive.

 

 

 

In the face of this visual wealth of flavours and aromas, the president of the Association, Francisco García, recalled that they continue with “the objective of ensuring that the cattle breeder, the farmer and the artisan can sell what they make.” “But we do not only want to sell traditional products, but also new generation craftsmanship, with designs that show that it is a handmade product. With this fair we want to strengthen the economy in the southeast of the island of Gran Canaria,” García concluded.

 

The president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, also wanted to highlight that “coming here and seeing this showcase that is the Feria del Sureste, of what this Mancomunidad means and what it has worked on to get to the current moment. The primary sector continues to be an important base for the future condition of this region.”

 

 

 

The fair has 150 stands distributed evenly among producers from the municipalities of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Ingenio and Agüimes. It is a cultural and commercial event that exceeds 100.000 visitors, surpassing the number of visitors in each of its editions.

 

During the three days of the fair, you can enjoy the variety of products offered by the stands, as well as different children's activities, traditional games and the livestock show. In this edition, the activity Cocinando El Sureste returns, where chefs will participate to show us their culinary skills and share the secrets of cooking with the attendees. The three mayors of the region will put on their aprons. The first will be Francisco García, mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, who will be behind the stove today, at 17:00 p.m., together with Borja Suárez from the Sábor Restaurant.

 

The activity “A recipe, a story of ingenuity” will continue with other recipes, “Liquid Harmonies of the Southeast” with David Goshn from the Canary Islands Sommeliers Association and will close with a tasting menu in homage to the Southeast by David Morera, from Cocina en Acción. All of them will be in charge of bringing the flavor and the best aroma of the Region to this first day of the Fair.

 

Also, within the programme, this Friday there will also be a display of traditional games by the Llanos Prietos Folk Association, at 18:00 p.m. When night falls, we will welcome different local artists on stage: Divas, El Poder de la Música; the comedian Kike Pérez and the performance of Efecto Mariposa. With this, this first day will close and we will be ready to welcome the second day with new activities and surprises.
