Vecindario becomes a space for reflection with the photographic exhibition 'Gran Angular en los conflictos olvidados', which will be open to the public until November 23 in the Alvarado Janina room of the Víctor Jara Theater
The Gran Canaria photojournalist Borja Suarez presents a series of 20 black and white photographs that reflect the daily experiences of people affected by silenced conflicts, such as those in Palestine and the Sáhara Occidental. The exhibition is part of the 20th edition of the San Rafael en Corto (SREC) Short Film Festival, organized by the Gran Angular Collective, and seeks to give visibility to realities that often remain in the shadows due to the narrative of the mainstream media.
The images of Suárez, taken during his career in media such as Canary Islands 7 y Reuters, capture the resilience of women, men and children who face the consequences of armed conflicts in their territories on a daily basis. Through these snapshots, the exhibition becomes a visual denunciation against oblivion. As pointed out Augustine Dominguez, director of the SREC festival, “These portraits bring us closer to realities that the big media groups prefer to silence”.
With a sensitive and human approach, Borja Suárez not only documents the tragedy, but also the hope and dignity that survive in these environments. Vecindario thus becomes the epicentre of a photojournalism that does not leave anyone who sees it indifferent.
