The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, through the Housing Department, led by Lucía Jiménez (CC), announces the opening of the call for rental aid for habitual and permanent housing, aimed at residents of the municipality who are actively employed. The main objective of this initiative is to alleviate the burden of rent and guarantee access to decent housing for families and working people with difficulties.
The grants, which will have an initial budget of 1 million euros for this call, will be awarded through a competitive process, which will allow applicants to be prioritized according to their socioeconomic situation and years of residence in the municipality, in order to cover their needs. The management of the applications and the distribution of the funds will be carried out in collaboration with the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation of Gran Canaria, a collaborating entity that will facilitate the process and guarantee transparency in the processing and awarding of the grants.
Deadlines and requirements
Those interested in accessing this call for applications can do so from today, Monday 11 November, with a period of 20 working days to complete it. Among the requirements, it is requested to have a rental contract for a home or room in the municipality and that this is the habitual or permanent residence; that the rental price does not exceed 850 euros; in the case of large families, 1.000 euros or 550 euros, in the case of room rental. In addition, it will be necessary that the sum of the income of the family unit ranges between 15.700 euros and 37.700 euros and finally, to be residents in San Bartolomé de Tirajana for at least one year before the start date of the subsidy period, with preference for seniority, that is, the longer the registered person has been residing in the municipality, the higher the score to access the aid.
Commitment of the City Council
The Councillor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez, has stressed that “this is a measure to solve the housing problem that exists in the municipality”. It is based, continues Jiménez, on two reasons: “to alleviate the economic impact that we have been suffering in recent years and, on the other hand, to help those working families who find it so difficult to make ends meet”.
The first deputy mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Alejandro Marichal, highlights that when the legislature began, three major lines of work were outlined, including allocating rental aid to working people and families in the municipality. “The Housing Department is implementing one of the objectives set for this legislature that will alleviate the economic burden of families in the municipality. We continue to work to make the rehabilitation of the existing housing stock and the construction of public housing a reality.” Marichal also congratulates the councillor, Lucía Jiménez, and the Housing team “for the great work they are doing” he concluded.
