Travel agents and executives from the operator Itaka in Hungary have been reviewing this autumn the tourism business in the south of Gran Canaria, a new destination for the European tourist group, as reported by Itaka in a statement to Maspalomas24H on Tuesday. Hungarian tourists in the Canary Islands are usually between 25 and 55 years old, and often travel as a couple or as a family. There is also a growing interest in group travel, especially among young people and young adults.
This emerging market spends on mid-high range accommodation and active tourism experiences. The average stay is usually between 7 and 10 days. According to Turespaña in Gran Canaria, they are mainly looking for sun and beaches, but they also show interest in complementary activities, such as hiking, visits to natural parks, water activities, and to a lesser extent, golf.
Hungarian tourists tend to visit the Canary Islands especially during the winter, escaping the low temperatures at home. The months from November to March see a greater influx of visitors from Hungary. This type of visitor prefers to stay in hotels and resorts, although there has also been an increase in interest in apartments and self-catering accommodation. Direct connectivity from Budapest has facilitated this flow of tourism, especially thanks to airlines offering cheap flights.
