A 72-year-old man has lost his life after being rescued unconscious from the water on Meloneras beach, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in the early afternoon of Wednesday, November 13.
At around 15:34 p.m., the Canary Islands Government's 1-1-2 Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert informing them that Red Cross lifeguards had pulled a swimmer from the water in cardiac arrest. According to the information provided, the man showed signs of drowning, which prompted the immediate activation of the necessary emergency resources.
The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) sent a basic life support ambulance and a medical ambulance to the scene. The rescuers, who had already started basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers, continued to assist the victim while the medical resources arrived.
The SUC medical staff took on advanced resuscitation maneuvers, but, despite the efforts made, the situation could not be reversed, confirming the death of the man on the spot.
Local Police and National Police officers collaborated in managing the incident, facilitating access to emergency services and taking charge of the corresponding procedures.
