Coalición Canaria (CC) and Nueva Canarias (NC) hope to start the agenda of contacts in the south of the island "after Fitur" to "talk" about "providing a greater degree of stability to the governability" of the south of Gran Canaria, according to sources from the leadership of both parties confirmed to Maspalomas24H on Thursday. The local federations of CC and NC do not want to talk about any integration process until the month of February.
CC has seven councillors in the south of Gran Canaria and NC five. The idea of the leadership of both forces is "little by little" in favour of an integration "without traumas", said the same nationalist source who recalled the existence of "different sensitivities" and "we must know how to manage egos". From NC, currently divided, it is maintained in Las Palmas that "everything indicates that the predisposition of both formations is to reach an agreement of governability and stability". The regional power vacuum that exists in the nationalist party led by Samuel Henríquez helps that "the difficulties that are already known to everyone during these last months have caused this possibility of starting to negotiate with Coalición Canaria".
The existence of this "predisposition" of CC and NC to accelerate "stability" agreements has the officials of the south of Gran Canaria upside down. The idea defended by CC is that since there is a regional agreement with the PP, the possibility of "altering" the institutional stability pact that both formations have signed since June 2023 "does not make sense to go against it, there is no change of areas and it would be CC that would cede plots of power to NC and there is room for space". Last June, in the wake of the first year of the mandate of AV-PP and CC, the local leader of NC, Samuel Henríquez, said that "we will always have councillors and a mayor willing to worsen the management of the City Council and to move our municipality away from normality and quality by sharing the votes of a few salaried employees to the detriment of the general interest and the expectations of the community that has elected them". Since then, Henríquez has toned down the attacks on CC.
