With just two weeks to go until the big day, the iconic destination in the south of Gran Canaria is offering unique shopping prices in 2025, making it a bargain on short and long-distance trips in the sales. Long-stay tourists in the south of Gran Canaria flock to local shops with the novelty of shops such as Spar or Aldi, which has been offering its first low prices since it opened, while in shopping centres such as Yumbo tourists and locals are looking for electronics, clothing and household items with discounts at the start of the Christmas shopping season, crucial for large retailers. The aggressive discounts at the Yumbo shopping centre generate an increase in retail sales during the week that encompasses the start of the traditional Black Friday shopping season each year.
Consumers are also shopping smarter, using all their tools – from cross-channel searching to cross-checking across apps and websites – to maximise value as they spend time on holiday in the south of Gran Canaria. Mastercard has indicated that more shoppers are choosing to take advantage of early discounts, with e-commerce sales on 24 November 2023 growing 8,5% year-on-year compared to a 1,1% increase in in-store sales. “Consumers are making good use of the holiday season and taking advantage of promotions, which offer them a wide variety of options as they search for gifts for everyone on their list.
