The Councillor for Urban Planning in the south of Gran Canaria, Alejandro Marichal, has placed on public information in Costas through Gesvisur the regulation of the occupation of lands of public maritime-terrestrial domain for the management and exploitation of the seasonal services of the beaches of Maspalomas, Playa de Inglés, Meloneras, El Pajar and San Agustín for the execution period of 2028. Everything is going to change prioritising sustainability.

The total occupied surface area is 26.225,10 square metres, structured in turn into seven zones between Playa de San Agustín, Playa de Las Burras, Playa del Cochino, Playa de El Inglés in its urban and natural sections, Playa de Maspalomas, including the urban and natural sections, Playa de Meloneras and Playa de Santa Águeda. Within the aforementioned area of beaches and sectors, changes will be applied to 9 kiosks, bars, two kiosks, eight terraces, 45 Balinese hammocks, 3.994 hammocks and 1.997 parasols.

In Playa del Inglés, 6 areas with a total surface area of 8.196 square metres are requested, where a total of 1.244 sun loungers, 622 parasols and 30 Balinese-style sun loungers will be located, as well as a small 4-square-metre shed for storing the mats for the sun loungers. Two 2-square-metre kiosks will be installed, and, in addition to the kiosks, two terrace areas of 20 square metres each. A 50-square-metre ticket kiosk will be installed in the area furthest from the urban area, which will allow beach users to store their valuables.

In Maspalomas, 10 zones with a total area of 13.217,10 square metres are requested, where a total of 2.112 sun loungers and 1.056 parasols will be located. Four kiosks of 4 square metres each will be installed in the following zones. Another change is that the surface area of the Special Conservation Zone (ZEC) is reduced, the number of sun loungers in the ZEC zone has been considerably reduced, a mobility plan is created with specific travel dates and a reduction in waste containers per season is proposed.

In the Playa del Inglés area, greater separation will be created between the sports fields and the hammocks to ensure the well-being and safety of beach users. In Playa del Veril/Cochino, the beach hill will be cleared of vegetation, in the section closest to Playa de las Burras, where there is also a concrete block with graffiti and signs warning of the danger of landslides.

Due to the rise of new water sports in the municipality such as paddle surfing, kayaking, windfoil, kitesurfing, windsurfing and surfing, among others, a 15-metre wide channel will be created and its length will vary depending on the characteristics of each beach. It will be installed at one end of the beach, except for San Agustín beach, which will be installed in front of the existing Red Cross post, in order to facilitate access to the sea for lifeguard boats. On Maspalomas beach and Ingles beach, two and four areas are requested respectively for surfing; passage channels will not be requested.
