Alexis Moreno: “This modification will allow us to catch up with the UTE for street cleaning, beaches, waste collection as well as the implementation of the fifth container”
Alejandro Marichal: “Once the arrears are settled, we will see, throughout 2025, more machinery for street cleaning and a reinforcement team in the afternoons cleaning our streets”
The Plenary Session of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has approved a budget modification of more than 5 million euros, financed with treasury surplus, to meet urgent commitments related to street cleaning, beaches, waste collection and the implementation of the fifth mandatory container. This budget covers delays generated in the price reviews of the 2016 cleaning contract with the UTE San Bartolomé, corresponding to the periods 2021-2022 and 2022-2024, as well as the start of advanced waste separation systems in compliance with current environmental regulations.
The investment includes 643.018 euros for improvements in the cleaning of beaches and promenades, while 4,4 million will be allocated to the collection of domestic waste, street cleaning and the implementation of the fifth container. According to the Councillor for Economy and Finance, Alexis Moreno, this measure is essential to resolve contractual and legal commitments, as well as improving environmental management. For his part, the First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal, announced that the liquidation of the arrears will allow for an increase in machinery and reinforcement of street cleaning teams in 2025.
The mayor stressed that this measure reflects the City Council's ability to respond to financial and administrative challenges, prioritising the well-being of residents and ensuring efficient management of resources. In addition, with the help of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the self-compactor areas will be improved to create cleaner and more accessible spaces.
