The Minister of Economic Development attends the event held at the Casa Condal, where the Centre is located, which has received a grant from the Cabildo to organise the workshops

The Telde Handicraft Centre, located in the Casa Condal, hosted this Friday the diploma presentation ceremony for the 100 students who have participated in the craft workshops organised with part of a subsidy of 40.000 euros awarded by the Cabildo through the Foundation for Ethnography and the Development of Canarian Crafts (Fedac) and which was also used to equip the facilities with technological elements such as a screen, an audiovisual directory, an app for information about the rooms or digital kiosks.

During the event, which was marked by music and a celebration of art and tradition, the Minister of Economic Development, Minerva Alonso, highlighted Fedac's commitment to the preservation and promotion of the island's traditional trades. "These types of initiatives not only help keep these trades alive, but also offer participants a unique connection with our culture and history, while fostering new job opportunities," she said.

The courses, which included disciplines such as felt, basketry, making traditional costumes and fabric decoration, lasted 60 hours and were developed using the methodology designed by specialized artisans. These workshops not only provided technical training, but also an enriching experience that allowed participants to get closer to the cultural roots of Gran Canaria. In addition, the works produced during the courses are exhibited in a special exhibition, as a closing event for the program.

The event, in which the Councillor and the Councillor for Cultural Heritage of Telde City Council, Juan Martel, were in charge of presenting the diplomas, included a varied musical programme by the Telde Municipal Band and the Municipal Folklore School, which offered several performances.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the fashion show featuring the students themselves, who showed off creations made during the workshops to the rhythm of traditional music.

With this initiative, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and Fedac reaffirm their commitment to preserving the island's cultural legacy, offering a space for training, learning and the promotion of artisan trades.
