A man has died in Playa del Cura, in the municipality of Mogán, after drowning. The incident occurred on November 23 at 08:52.
The Canary Islands Government's 1-1-2 Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) activated a large-scale emergency response after receiving an alert reporting a person rescued from the sea who needed immediate medical assistance.
Intervention on site
According to the report provided, after confirming that the affected person was in cardiorespiratory arrest, a SUC coordinating nurse in the operating room guided the alerters via teleassistance to perform initial resuscitation maneuvers.
A beach lifeguard continued the maneuvers, using a semi-automatic defibrillator until the arrival of advanced resources. SUC personnel, who traveled in several ambulances and in a medical helicopter that landed on the beach, performed basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers. However, it was not possible to reverse the situation, confirming the death of the man.
Additional device and police action
Mogán Civil Protection and members of the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium set up a safe area for the helicopter to land and take off. The Civil Guard, for its part, took charge of guarding the body of the deceased until the arrival of the judicial authorities and instructing the corresponding proceedings.
