Tragic accident in Agüimes: One dead and two injured after head-on collision on the GC-191

A tragic accident that occurred this Sunday on the GC-191 road, near Las Rosas, left one dead and two injured after a head-on collision between two vehicles. The incident, recorded at 16:46 p.m., mobilized a large emergency team coordinated by the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 of the Government of the Canary Islands.

 

Attention to those affected

 

The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) assessed the occupants of the vehicles and confirmed the death of one of them at the scene of the accident. They also assisted the other two affected:

    • Deceased man: Identified inside one of the vehicles, whose death was confirmed by medical teams following resuscitation maneuvers.

    • 31-year-old woman: She had moderate injuries. She was taken to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria in a medicalized ambulance from the SUC.

    • 32-year-old man: He had moderate injuries. He was evacuated to the Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín University Hospital in a sanitized SUC ambulance.

Intervening services and actions on site

 

The operation included the following services:

    • Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC): Three ambulances (medicalized, sanitized and basic life support) responsible for assisting and transferring those affected.

    • Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium: Firefighters freed the deceased occupant from the vehicle, secured the vehicles and helped with the clean-up tasks.

    • Civil Guard: Responsible for regulating traffic and preparing the corresponding report to clarify the causes of the accident.

    • Local Police: Provided support in the coordination of the emergency response.

    • Gran Canaria Council Road Maintenance Service: Carried out cleaning tasks on the road after the accident.

 

Circumstances of the accident

 

CECOES 112 received multiple calls alerting about the head-on collision and the need for immediate assistance for the occupants of the vehicles. The rapid activation of resources allowed for initial care and stabilization of the injured, although it was not possible to save the life of one of those involved.

 

The Civil Guard has launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
