The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a warning for Gran Canaria due to the presence of haze and temperatures higher than usual for this time of year.
According to AEMET, Gran Canaria will experience a light haze that will mainly affect low levels. Temperatures will be unusually warm for this time of year, especially in the eastern province, where temperatures could reach 30 degrees Celsius locally.
Pre-alert for risk of forest fires
Due to these conditions, the Government of the Canary Islands has reactivated the pre-alert for the risk of forest fires in Gran Canaria and Tenerife from 11:00 a.m. this Wednesday. The combination of warm and dry air, together with haze and high temperatures, increases the risk of fires on the island.
Generally clear skies, with light haze affecting low levels. Maximum temperatures will rise, especially on the western slope, where temperatures may reach 30ºC locally. Winds will generally be light from the northeast, shifting to a southern component in the morning; in the midlands and peaks, moderate from the south, increasing in the afternoon.
