The new public employment project is focused on the restoration and improvement of rural trails in the midlands of the municipality and also in towns such as El Salobre, Agadir and El Matorral.

Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez met this Wednesday the 13 workers of the new employment project 'La Vereda VIII' that the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has launched with a subsidy from the State Public Employment Service.

They are twelve farm workers and a foreman who, over the next three months, will carry out work aimed at the conservation and improvement of the trails in the rural area of the municipality, such as the one that connects Tunte with the Degollada de Cruz Grande or the Camino de Fataga, among others, revitalized to cover the growing demand for the paths and hiking routes in the midlands of the municipality.

It was the second deputy mayor, Elena Álamo Vega, in charge of the Department of Local Development, who welcomed the project workers, which has been included in the Agricultural Employment Promotion Programme by the State Public Employment Service.

The development of the project, which is also aimed at improving the forest trails in the towns of El Salobre, Agadir and El Matorral, is coordinated by the municipal area of Parks and Gardens, headed by the eighth lieutenant and councillor responsible for the Department of Roads and Works, Araceli Armas Cruz, and will be supervised by the councillor Eduardo Armas Herrera.

The specific task of the workers at La Vereda VIII is focused on the maintenance of the trails, with tasks such as clearing, removing vegetation, removing obstacles, marking out trails and replacing stones. “These rehabilitation and improvement tasks aim to restore the trails and forest tracks to their former layouts and to optimise their transit and safety conditions so that they can be enjoyed by residents and visitors who love nature,” says Elena Álamo.

Since 2014, the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has been carrying out similar projects to this one, subsidised by the State Public Employment Service, such as the so-called 'Caminos y Senderos' (Roads and Trails), with the same objectives. "These are projects that, although short-lived, have had a significant impact both on employment and on the recovery and improvement of the paths and the conditions necessary for the enjoyment of hiking activities, a fact that generates ecological but also economic benefits in the rural area of the municipality," says the second deputy mayor.
