The mayor and the councillor for Security and Emergencies, José Carlos Álamo, congratulate and thank the “personal and professional dedication” with which the rescue personnel faced the tasks of helping the affected population of Alfafar

On behalf of the population of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez and the Sixth Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Security and Emergencies, José Carlos Álamo Ojeda, personally congratulated and thanked the firefighters of the Municipal Fire and Rescue Service of this municipality on Wednesday for the “valuable help” they provided to those affected by the floods in Valencia.

The Maspalomas fire brigade joined the contingent of Canarian firefighters who travelled in different batches at the beginning of November to the areas affected by the Dana to participate and help in the rescue, cleaning and reconstruction work in the areas most affected by the flood.

Both Marco Aurelio Pérez and José Carlos Álamo expressed their gratitude for the “personal and professional solidarity” with which the Maspalomas firefighters faced this initiative of human and professional collaboration that was so much needed by the affected population in the days immediately following the devastating effects of the water and mud.

Maspalomas firefighters travelled to Valencia in different relief groups together with their colleagues from the Firefighters Consortium of Gran Canaria, Tenerife and other islands, to contribute to the reconstruction, cleaning and recovery of necessary infrastructures that were severely damaged by the flood.

The equipment transported by the municipal firefighters to Valencia included specialized material, including three bilge pumps, two power generators and portable lighting fixtures needed for areas without electricity supply.

The San Bartolomé de Tirajana operatives were entrusted with technical support and protection tasks for the pumping, drainage, vehicle removal, power restoration and structuring of the food bank in the town of Alfafar, where they devoted all their professional activity to the devastated streets in intensive shifts of up to 16 and 18 hours at a time.
