Narváez demands clarity in the selection process for the new Gesvisur manager

PSOE SBT Thursday, November 28 from 2024

Narváez has denounced that, despite having requested the appointment certificate and the protocol followed for said designation on two occasions, the governing group has not provided any response.

During the ordinary plenary session held today in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, the spokesperson for the Socialist Party in the municipality, Concepción Narváez, has demanded clear explanations from the governing group regarding the lack of response to several documents submitted to the City Council. Among them, the opacity in the appointment of the new manager of the municipal company Gesvisur stands out.

Narváez has complained that, despite having requested the appointment certificate and the protocol followed for said designation on two occasions, the governing group has not provided any response. The spokesperson recalled that this matter was already raised in the October plenary session, where she demanded that the procedure should comply with the principles of publicity, transparency and free competition included in the statute of public employees.

On that occasion, the first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marichal (Coalición Canaria), assured that the appointment was made as an internal promotion within Gesvisur, complying with the requirements established for the company's staff. However, Narváez has insisted that, as it is a senior management position, the process should have been carried out through a public and open procedure, with a call that guaranteed transparency and equal opportunities for other possible candidates.

The socialist spokesperson also questioned whether other Gesvisur workers were given the option to participate in the process during this internal promotion and once again demanded access to the documentation that supports the claims of the governing group.

"The silence of the governing group in response to our questions and writings raises legitimate doubts about the legality and transparency of this appointment. We will continue to insist until we obtain clear and documented answers that dispel any suspicion of irregularity," Narváez said.

Care for the elderly and sustainability on our beaches

Councillor Kevin Paz has raised the urgent need to attend to a request made more than six months ago by relatives of the day centre users, who demanded that the centre also be open on weekends. “In May of this year, in a meeting with you and your Councillor for Social Services, a request was made to enable a minimum schedule on weekends to guarantee the care of the beneficiaries. These relatives, many of them hospitality workers, face great difficulties in reconciling their work and family life. When do you plan to attend to this request?” asked Paz, who described it as incongruous to presume recognition of the elderly at events such as the II Meeting of Older People while their most basic needs are ignored.

For his part, councillor Braulio Díaz (Michel) has made a plea in defence of the environment and the image of the municipality, highlighting the complaints of tourists about the use of polluting vehicles on the beaches of Maspalomas, a natural and protected environment. Díaz asked the governing group to, to the extent possible, begin to replace the current vehicles with electric models. “It is a question of image, but also of respect for the environment and our beaches, which are our main attraction,” he stressed.

Councillor Nélida García has denounced what happened with the display case and the historic trophies of the San Fernando petanque club, which were removed after the change of management of the club bar, now used for dominoes. García regretted that these trophies, which represent decades of effort and sporting achievements, have been eliminated without an alternative or consultation with the club's managers. "This is a lack of respect not only for the San Fernando Petanque Club, but also for the Canarian Petanque Federation and all those who dedicated their time and effort to sport. Is this the future that awaits the rest of the sports clubs in the municipality?" questioned the councillor.

Finally, Councillor Clara Inés Martel was interested in the status of the procedures initiated in October 2019 so that municipal nurseries can act as early childhood education schools. Martel highlighted the importance of moving forward in this process to improve the quality of education and the access of families to essential services. “What is the current status of this procedure?” she asked, highlighting the need to prioritise this matter.

The Socialist Party reiterates its commitment to continue defending the interests of the citizens of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and to demand transparency and efficiency from the governing group in the management of public affairs.
