The children's choir from CEIP Tinguaro played live music at the lighting of the Open Commercial Zone

Santa Lucía de Tirajana officially welcomed Christmas this Friday with the switching on of the lights in the Open Commercial Zone on Avenida de Canarias. A musical theatre performance and Christmas music performed by the Children's Choir of CEIP Tinguaro enlivened the official switching on of the Christmas lights in the Open Commercial Zone on Avenida de Canarias. Mayor Francisco García and the Councillor for Commerce, Verónica Suárez, encouraged the public to enjoy the more than 50 activities of the Christmas campaign scheduled for the entire month of December and the first week of January, which has the collaboration of Ascoive.

A parade of announcers went along Avenida de Canaria and ended in the centre of the Pedestrian Zone, where municipal representatives spoke. The mayor, Francisco García, said that “We want the whole municipality to experience these dates in a special way. We are on Avenida Canarias, in the largest Pedestrian Commercial Zone on the island of Gran Canaria, where most of our shops are located, and a significant part of the restaurants, which is why we chose this place to inaugurate the lighting.” The mayor added that “of course, we want the main protagonists to be the children, which is why the Children's Choir of CEIP Tinguaro is in charge of putting music to this lighting act that opens the doors to such special dates as Christmas.”

The Councillor for Commerce, Verónica Suárez, said that “the air of illusion and magic is already reaching Santa Lucía de Tirajana with tonight’s show”. The Councillor stressed that “we have made a programme designed for the whole family and it will be in all parts of our municipality, because our objective is to energise and enrich the life of local commerce and commercial areas”.

After the intervention of the municipal representatives, the musical theatre show 'Secretos de Navidad' (Christmas Secrets) took place, starring Melania López, a story with a message of respect and tolerance. Afterwards, the Children's Choir of the CEIP Tinguaro performed.

In addition to the lighting in the Open Commercial Zone on Avenida de Canarias, the Santa Lucía de Tirajana Town Council has installed more than 300 Christmas motifs throughout the municipality, both in the upper area, in the different neighbourhoods of the urban area and on the coast of Pozo Izquierdo. The Christmas motifs have been installed in streets, parks and roundabouts, where you can see Christmas trees with balls, almond trees or small nativity scenes. The Department of Public Works has carried out most of the installations. The Department of Commerce has also participated, which is the main body responsible for the organisation of more than 50 activities such as parades, concerts, children's workshops and Christmas workshops in the Open Commercial Zone, or the Sardina Christmas market.

This Saturday, November 30th, starting at 7pm, there will also be a show in Santa Lucía, which will be a continuation of the performance from this Friday. After the show in the upper area, the Christmas lighting will take place.
