The Department of Social Services of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, headed by Dimas Sarmiento, has organised a full programme of activities to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which will be celebrated on 3 December. This event, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1992, underlines the importance of building an inclusive society that promotes the rights of people with disabilities, gender equality, non-discrimination and full accessibility in all aspects of life.
Maspalomas' South Park will be the setting for this island event, an emblematic space known for its extensive green areas and lake, ideal for enjoying an inclusive day outdoors.
The programme will begin at 10:00 with an official welcome, which will include a parade, visits to various stands and participation in workshops designed to promote inclusion and awareness. At midday, the opening ceremony will take place, where a manifesto will be read to reinforce the collective commitment to the rights of people with disabilities. The day will continue with the Inclusion Gala, where people and entities that have stood out for their work in favour of inclusion will be recognised. In addition, there will be a special performance by the renowned artist Pepe Benavente. The event will end at 14:00.
There will also be inclusive workshops for all audiences. Between 10:30 and 12:00, various inclusive workshops will be held, including 'Put yourself in my place', a dynamic organised by the Occupational Therapy Degree at the Fernando Pessoa University of the Canary Islands; inclusive Zumba, led by Silvia Arbelo; a personal growth workshop assisted by horses, taught by Alexis Díaz; and creative makeup with glitter, by Tembrujo SL.

Collaboration between administrations and entities
The meeting was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Institute for Social and Health Care, the Gran Canaria Accessible Foundation of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the Department of Social Services of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, ISCAN Servicios Integrales and the CAF Arucas.
The first deputy mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Alejandro Marichal, is pleased that the municipality has been chosen for the second consecutive year as the venue for this important event and thanked all the participating entities for their support. “The collaboration between administrations and organisations makes this meeting a success and reinforces the idea of supporting the construction of a more inclusive and supportive society,” he concluded.
