The winter tourist season in the south of Gran Canaria continues to be the driving force of the Canarian economy. This Monday, the employers' association Faconauto pointed out that companies have benefited from the drop in interest rates, and last November they registered 1.056 vehicles, 16% more than last year. The Rac (Rent a car) channel maintains the positive trend with a growth of almost 58% and 2.913 units.
In the rest of the markets, the final picture changes depending on the segment. Sales of commercial vehicles fell by almost 4%, with 722 vehicles registered. The same negative trend is maintained in the market for industrial vehicles and buses, with a decrease of 20% and 73 vehicles. The two-wheel market registered a growth of 9,3% compared to November last year, with 1.268 units sold.
Regarding the year-to-date, as the president of the Canary Islands dealers' association assures, "our forecasts are coming true. With one month to go before the end of the year, our sales are down almost 8% compared to 2023 and for us it was already a bad scenario to fall by 10%. But we still have to wait for the sales of December," according to Manuel Sánchez, president of Faconauto. Regarding the penetration of the pure electric vehicle, 310 units were registered last month, which represents 5% of the market share. Gasoline vehicles accounted for 66% of the market share during the past month, with 4.019 registered passenger cars.
For the Director General of Transport and Mobility, María Fernández, “public-private collaboration is essential to face the climatic challenges that Europe is imposing on us, and we need the support and knowledge of professionals to move forward together.” The Canary Islands Dealer Association, Aconauto Canarias, and the General Directorate of Transport and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands have begun a key collaboration to define a common strategy to promote sustainable mobility in the archipelago. In a working meeting held at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Mobility, both entities agreed on the importance of coordinating efforts to move towards a more environmentally friendly transport model.
