Representatives of the commercial sector support the mayor's request to increase the number of civil guards in the municipality
The mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, called a meeting with those responsible for the municipality's shopping centers, representatives of merchant associations, taxi drivers and the two hotels in Vecindario to inform them of the Security Plan that the City Council has established with the local police for the Christmas season. At the meeting the first mayor also listened to the demands raised by the representatives of the businessmen. The commercial sector showed its support to the mayor in his demand to increase the number of civil guards that the Ministry of the Interior has in the municipality.
The Christmas Security Plan will run from December 9 to the first half of January. After the meeting the mayor declared that "the services of the Local Police will be reinforced, and we have agreed with the businessmen which actions are priority and where they should be carried out, because, as I told them at the meeting, a municipality is made not only with the political management, it is also done with the help of economic and social agents.” The first mayor added that "The concern of the representatives of the shopping center focused on the access to the municipality, the possible collapses that could be generated."
The first deputy mayor, Santiago Rodríguez, and leaders of the local police of Santa Lucía de Tirajana were also present at the meeting. The mayor requested a meeting with the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands fifteen days ago to request an increase in the number of civil guard troops. The Government Delegation had arranged the meeting for last Wednesday, but the suspension of air connections at La Palma airport caused the postponement of the meeting for this Wednesday, December 1.
