The president of the Cabildo presents the new image and announces the edition of a new craft fair in 2025 at the Faro de Maspalomas
The president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, presented this Tuesday the new corporate image of the FEDAC (Fund for the Ethnography and Development of Canarian Crafts), a design that modernizes its iconic logo. This change preserves original elements, such as the spiral and the yellow triangles that represent tradition and creativity, now incorporating a stylized figure that symbolizes a craftsman and that makes him, in some way, come to life, humanize him, to pay homage to the true protagonist. The new logo -as Morales himself explained- "seeks to reflect the connection between innovation and tradition, adapting to the needs of identification and visibility in digital and physical media." And it can be modeled, drawn or touched.
During the presentation, Morales highlighted the importance of this update as a reflection of the evolution of FEDAC, which since its creation in 1992 has worked for the preservation and dissemination of traditional crafts and culture of Gran Canaria and for the unwavering support of artisans and the sale of their creations. The new visual identity includes a brand manual and adaptations for different formats, from signage to digital applications, strengthening its institutional presence.
The president also offered many other details, such as that the FEDAC has managed a budget of 2,7 million euros in 2024, which will rise to 2,9 million in 2025, destined to preserve and disseminate the artisan and ethnographic heritage of Gran Canaria. This budget has not only supported the professionalization of the sector, but also the organization of craft fairs such as the one in San Telmo and the spring and summer editions at the Faro de Maspalomas, which in 2024 generated more than 600.000 euros in sales. At the same time, the organization organized 41 craft shows throughout the island, bringing visitors closer to the richness of traditional trades through live demonstrations.
Also in autumn: A new fair at the Maspalomas Lighthouse
In this section, the president announced the organisation of a new fair next year, a third event in addition to the Spring and Summer fair at the Maspalomas Lighthouse and which will be held in the last third of the year. “It was a demand from the sector and this is a good opportunity to inform them that it will become a reality in 2025,” said Morales.
In the training field, FEDAC provided more than 1.100 hours of courses in 2024, aimed at both the general public and specialized artisans. It also increased its ethnographic collection with 286 new pieces, many of them made by local artisans, and its bibliographic collection with 60 publications related to the history and artisan techniques.
In addition, FEDAC has produced documentaries such as "Modelando nuestro Patrimonio" (Modelling our heritage), dedicated to pottery, and managed more than 500.000 euros in grants between 2022 and 2024, benefiting artisans, town councils and cultural entities. These grants have been key to preserving traditional culture and strengthening the artisan sector.
With this renewed image and an ambitious action plan, FEDAC reaffirms its role as a driving force of the artisan sector in Gran Canaria, and "renews its commitment to safeguard its cultural legacy and project it into the future", said the Minister of Economic Development, Minerva Alonso - on whose area the Foundation depends - who wanted to thank the manager and the entire Fedac team for the work and effort they have put into achieving all these successes, as well as the large group of artisans present at the event, with whom - she said - all the proposals are developed "in a collaborative manner".
