Maspalomas pays to be criticized in Las Palmas

The south of Gran Canaria continues to have an inferiority complex of contracting services from companies in Las Palmas that are not financially solid enough to be able to assume their payments, so they contract external suppliers on credit while waiting for the administration to pay. This may work until problems arise in Intervention with overcharges for services that no one would have asked for or that would not be properly justified. The suppliers in the south of Gran Canaria of these companies in Las Palmas have been the ones who have denounced the colonial mistreatment.

Buying services from the Nordic Gran Canarians has cost the AV-PP and CC pact dearly on Tuesday, which the sector's employers' association has denounced as being in default, causing discontent among public officials. "These people believe they are in Las Palmas and that here we almost accept broken mirrors as in the Conquest of America," said an indignant State official consulted by Maspalomas24H, who asked: don't they have other places where they can say that their events are good for tourism, or is it convenient to bring people to run through the streets as if the entire municipality were Sioux City? Yes, we already know that now they will come from behind saying that they knew nothing about the statement issued by themselves." A municipal leader told Maspalomas24H that "we do not want people from Las Palmas here holding sporting events here even if they are free, they bother us and saturate our agenda by calling the party or calling hotel entrepreneurs to put pressure on us, we have no positive experiences and here with two good sporting events a year for people from the south of the island like the one held at the end of December with young people we are doing very well."

The association of sporting event companies operating in Las Palmas want to continue selling services to the south of Gran Canaria despite the failures and reputational damage caused to the destination by events with no plans for continuity such as the Gran Canaria Marathon. The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has decided to disconnect from sporting projects in Las Palmas and locate suppliers with local roots so that the money stays, as the 2030 Agenda maintains, in the areas of impact where they are carried out.

But this has not pleased the employers of sporting events in Las Palmas at all. Most of these contracts are approved with the formula that the Municipal Intervention does not want to see: reasons of technical exclusivity. The companies from Las Palmas came to the south of Gran Canaria to offer their services, mostly, when they have gone bankrupt in Las Palmas and intend to remain hooked on the municipal money probe under the argument of tourism when there is tourism all over the island but money, what is called money, is in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. They regret that they have been dragging debts since 2019.

At the same time that they are dealing with the client, the town council co-governed by AV-PP and Coalición Canaria (CC) Eventsport points out that "the dialogue and understanding with this council has always been positive and beneficial for everyone" but "Evensport makes an urgent call to the Town Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana to settle the outstanding debt as soon as possible, guaranteeing the continuity of these major events and thus avoiding a crisis that affects the thousands of athletes who travel to Gran Canaria to practice sports throughout the year."
