What fear is there about the south of Gran Canaria being on the council of the Port of Las Palmas?

Gran Canaria only exports some bananas and tomatoes for port value purposes. The rest is all related to tourism. From the arrival of goods to meet the demand in the economic capital of the Canary Islands, that is, Maspalomas. Those containers in the port of Las Palmas are mostly empty and many of them arrived full of products to meet the needs of the destination and are stacked up waiting to be put on other filling vessels to meet international demand. The municipality is also absent from the Aena advisory board in the Canary Islands and has its headquarters in Tenerife, which already surpasses Gran Canaria in German tourism.

San Bartolomé de Tirajana, as a tourist hub in Gran Canaria and one of the most visited municipalities in Spain, has a legitimate and strategic interest in being part of the Board of Directors of the Port of Las Palmas. Its inclusion in this collegiate body is essential for economic reasons. The presence of a municipal representative on the board would guarantee that the needs and demands of the tourism sector, especially with regard to port infrastructure, maritime connections and fluidity in the processes of arrival and departure of passengers, are duly attended to and prioritized.

Secondly, San Bartolomé de Tirajana has extensive experience in the management of large-scale tourist destinations. Its knowledge of tourism promotion, management of tourist flows and environmental sustainability can provide a valuable perspective to the Board of Directors, contributing to strategic decision-making that promotes port development in a sustainable manner and in line with the archipelago's tourism objectives.

Furthermore, the inclusion of San Bartolomé de Tirajana in the Council would strengthen coordination between the different administrations involved in the development of the Port of Las Palmas. The synergy between the municipality and the port would allow for optimising the management of resources, improving the efficiency of services and boosting opportunities for economic and social development for the entire region.
In short, the representation of San Bartolomé de Tirajana on the Board of Directors of the Port of Las Palmas is a fair and necessary thesis.
