The II Christmas Cracker Solidario raises more than 11.000 euros to support the Spanish Association Against Cancer

Solidarity once again shone at the Maspalomas Lighthouse with the celebration of the II Christmas Cracker 2024, an event organised by the Ekta Foundation in collaboration with the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Hall. This year, the event managed to raise a total of 11.400 euros, surpassing the 5.500 euros obtained in the previous edition.

The event brought together the Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez; the First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal; the Councillor for Social Services, Dimas Sarmiento; the President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Las Palmas, Fernando Fraile; Wendy López, from the Canary Group Foundation for Lung Cancer; and the President of the Ekta Foundation, Rakesh Ahuja, as well as numerous attendees who reinforced the community's spirit of solidarity. The funds raised will be donated to both foundations to contribute to research and support for people affected by cancer, an objective that remains a priority for the organisers and collaborators.

Rakesh Ahuja “deeply thanked all the attendees, collaborators, volunteers and the municipal corporation for making this event possible. This year we have almost doubled the amount raised, reaching 11.100 euros, thereby demonstrating that unity and solidarity are essential to face great challenges such as cancer and promote real change.” In this sense, Fraile and López thanked the “work, solidarity and collaboration of both civil society and the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council,” which make the development of this type of event possible, which represent a “great help for research into this disease.”

Likewise, Dimas Sarmiento highlighted “the generosity of companies and individuals who donated to this cause, which will allow everyone to contribute their grain of sand to those family members, friends and companions who suffer from this disease.” The first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marichal, pointed out that, in addition to this charitable act, “the Department of Social Services has provided a space to the Spanish Association Against Cancer so that it has a headquarters in the Shopping Centre, which will allow certain treatments, care or advice to be applied to people with this disease, thus avoiding them having to travel to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.”
