Traditionally sun-seekers, Britons are changing their holiday destinations. The growing popularity of North Africa, especially countries like Tunisia and Morocco, is eclipsing destinations like Spain. Why is this change of direction? TUI says there is nothing to worry about, but all signs point to a certain weariness in terms of prices. For Sebastian Ebel, CEO of TUI, "there is therefore a shift, especially in the family segment, towards cheaper destinations."
According to a recent survey by HolidayPirates, interest in Gran Canaria as a holiday destination has halved, while that of Tunisia has increased by 70%. The reasons are clear: inflation and rising costs of living are forcing tourists to look for cheaper alternatives. Package holidays to North Africa offer excellent value for money, with prices up to 20% lower than similar Spanish destinations. Plus, the warm, sunny climate all year round makes it an attractive option for those looking to escape the winter cold.
But it is not only the price and the climate that attract tourists. North Africa offers a rich culture, delicious cuisine and a wide variety of activities, from relaxing on the beach to exploring ancient ruins. The trend towards more affordable and exotic destinations seems to be consolidating. Tour operators are responding to this demand by offering new routes and holiday packages at very competitive prices.
However, it is important to bear in mind that each destination has its own advantages and disadvantages. Before booking your next holiday, do your research thoroughly and compare the different options to find the one that best suits your needs and budget. North Africa is becoming an increasingly popular alternative for British tourists looking for sun, sand and good value for money. Although you may not find the same giant water parks as in other destinations, the region offers a wide range of activities and experiences to enjoy an unforgettable holiday.
