The council presented the programme planned for the celebrations, which start on 21 December and include a funfair, skating rink, Christmas House, Christmas market, workshops and musical performances until 4 January.
Most of the events will take place inside Parque del Sur, but there will also be big events at the Auditorium, such as a Coldplay tribute concert, a performance by Vocal 7 or a Disney gala.
The City Council will provide free buses from the most remote neighbourhoods and towns so that all residents can enjoy the Christmas programme, which will culminate with the end-of-year opera gala at Expomeloneras and the traditional concert by Olga Cerpa and Mestisay at the Mirador de las Dunas, to kick off 2025.
The Councillor for the Presidency, Human Resources, Culture, Equality, Youth and Education of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council, Elena Álamo Vega, accompanied by Esther Delgado, Councillor for Culture, and Yilenia Vega, Councillor for Celebrations, presented this Monday the programme for 'Christmas of the World', with which the municipality celebrates the holidays with an intense agenda of cultural events aimed at the whole family and which will have the Parque del Sur as their epicentre.
The programme will run from 21 December to 4 January, from 17:00 p.m. to 22:00 p.m. (depending on the schedule for each day), and is the council's response to the need to provide residents and visitors with a variety of activities that revolve mostly around Christmas, although there will also be space for music, both with local artists and with concerts and tributes.
“All the programming that our residents will be able to enjoy is free and they will have bus routes organised by the City Council so that people from the most remote neighbourhoods or towns have the opportunity to come and enjoy the intense cultural calendar that we have organised,” emphasises the councillor.
In general, visitors will be able to enjoy a funfair, a skating rink of more than 200 square meters, the Christmas House, a Christmas market with local and foreign products, workshops for children, parades, musical performances, a small train and the presence of several food trucks.
“We are going to turn the Park into a large Christmas theme park, which includes a traditional nativity scene, the ExpoNavidad where we will learn how these holidays are celebrated in different countries such as the United Kingdom, Sweden or Finland, or a photocall with Christmas motifs to immortalize these important dates in the company of our family and friends,” explains the Councilor for Culture.
In addition to the food trucks and the fair, there will be three very important cultural spaces: the little Christmas theatre, Navirritmo, and the Gran Teatro de la Navidad, in the Auditorium. “We wanted to incorporate large-scale activities into the programme, such as a tribute to Coldplay, a Vocal 7 concert, a Disney Gala or the Coco and Pepe Show, from Cantajuegos, which will take place on 27 December,” says Elena Álamo.
The San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Hall has also organised three major concerts for Christmas. Specifically, on 27 December ExpoMeloneras will host the New Year's Eve Lyric Gala, an event that is also a charity event for the Maspalomas Rotary Club, with performances by tenor Juan A. Sanabria, baritone Fernando Campero, soprano Judith Pezoa and mezzo-soprano Cristina del Barrio.
On December 28th, the Plaza de El Tablero in Maspalomas will host the pre-bell ringing at 21:00 pm, a concert with the groups 'Con poco band', 'Ochentour' and a tribute to El Canto del Loco. Also, on January 1st, Olga Cerpa and Mestisay will offer their traditional New Year's concert at the Mirador de las Dunas in Playa del Inglés. From 18:30 pm, the group will offer their characteristic musical style, combining tradition and modernity in a unique natural environment.
