A 70-year-old man lost his life after being rescued from the water with signs of drowning in Playa del Inglés, located in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The incident took place at 15:57 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

The Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 received several calls alerting them of the situation. Witnesses reported that the victim had been taken out of the water and was in cardiac arrest. The necessary emergency resources were immediately activated to intervene on the scene.

The Red Cross staff, present on the beach, began basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres before the arrival of the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC). Despite the efforts of the medical teams, who applied advanced resuscitation manoeuvres, the situation was not reversed, confirming the death of the bather.

The local police and firefighters provided support to the work carried out by the emergency resources deployed. The National Police was in charge of guarding the body of the deceased until the arrival of the judicial authorities and began the corresponding proceedings to clarify what happened.
