It has been the institution with the best score, out of the 14 projects that have obtained funding in modality A of the call
The project will be able to expand the capacities developed in recent years to offer better services to tourists and public and private managers of the tourism sector.
The Ministry of Industry and Tourism has granted the Cabildo of Gran Canaria a subsidy of 3.540.282 euros for the deployment of Technological Platforms and Digital Solutions in the destinations of the Smart Tourist Destinations Network, which will allow the consolidation and extension of the scope of the SITGRAN+ project.
The aid, granted within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, represents almost 10% of the total funding contemplated in the A grant modality (for provincial councils, island councils and councils), which amounts to more than 38 million euros. SITGRAN+ is the highest-rated project in this modality of the call since, with 88,5 points, it has obtained the highest score of the 14 estimated projects.
The SITGRAN+ project is an initiative promoted by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria with the aim of improving the tourist competitiveness of the island through advanced digital solutions. Thanks to this grant, the project expands the capabilities developed in recent years, seeking to offer better services to both tourists and public and private managers of the tourism sector.
To this end, it focuses on three main objectives: improving the tourist experience, which involves the digitalisation of the island's tourist offices and cultural spaces, with tools that provide more efficient and personalised access to information. As for the promotion of Smart Tourist Destinations (DTI), the project will offer technical and technological support to the municipalities of Gran Canaria to facilitate their integration into the DTI network, enhancing the capacity of the municipalities to adopt these digital strategies for the benefit of local tourism.
Finally, the third objective focuses on strengthening the tourism data economy by optimising the Gran Canaria Tourist Information System (SITGRAN). This includes the integration of existing data systems and the development of new modules that encourage the growth of data-driven business initiatives.
The SITGRAN+ project, which will be carried out over 18 months, will be carried out by the Cabildo's public companies, the Gran Canaria Economic Promotion Society (SPEGC) and the Gran Canaria Telecommunications Development Society (SODETEGC), entities with experience in technological and economic promotion projects. The project is also being developed by Turismo de Gran Canaria, the Cabildo's Information Technology and Electronic Administration Service and SEGITTUR.
In addition, the project proposes synergies with local entities in other destinations, such as the Consell Insular de Mallorca, the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the City Council of Logroño, which will be able to use some of the functionalities developed in this initiative and which, in turn, will contribute some of their solutions to the project.
Collaboration of the 21 municipalities
The functionalities integrated into the project will allow for the provision of advisory services and the improvement of the services provided by municipalities in everything related to the development of smart tourist destination strategies. In this sense, the project will serve as a technological platform for the municipalities of Gran Canaria to benefit from the services offered by SITGRAN+ and by the state Smart Destination Platform (PID) that encompasses all existing platforms and solutions.
At this point, the involvement of the 21 municipalities on the island has been fundamental, as they have already sealed their willingness to articulate the support that the Cabildo will provide them on their path to becoming Smart Tourist Destinations.
