Mañaricua will stand for re-election as a hotel employers' association in Las Palmas

The European Tourin councillor, José María Mañaricua, confirmed this December that he will stand for re-election as president of the Las Palmas hotel association, which he recalled is not a paid position and that it costs him money out of his own pocket to do business diplomacy. As Maspalomas24H had already announced, Mañaricua's term as executive president of the Las Palmas hotel association is running out, but it was in a Politican podcast in Las Palmas where he confirmed that he will stand again. "I receive more sticks than carrots," said the business leader, who recalled that the position costs him money out of his pocket.

Some hotel companies are considering applying for this position, according to information obtained by Maspalomas24H from business sources, due to excessive exposure to Tenerife's interests in tourism in the south of Gran Canaria. "I have an unpaid position, I even pay for my own trips... even if the Canary Islands Government calls, I pay for my own trip personally," he said. Mañaricua defined himself as a business "dinosaur" and that "having an unpaid presidency is no sweet deal for anyone."

He said that his responsibility involves "sometimes taking time away from your family and your leisure time to dedicate it to the common good. If the rest of the partners and management team consider that he should continue at the helm, in May 2025 he would continue to lead the business organization. He recalled that since Fernando Fraile retired, no one has opted for the presidency of the FEHT because "there were never alternatives, I was the only person who applied," he said, adding: "If we continue without paying for the position, it will have to be a person who works in a company and who after working in his company will have to dedicate hours to the common interest."
