From January 2nd, the current parking lot in front of the Nublo entrance will be closed.
The Llanos de la Pez recreational area parking lot is established as a temporary alternative
The Cabildo of Gran Canaria, through the Department of the Environment in collaboration with Public Works, will begin work on January 2 on the future bus stop for the circular line that will facilitate access to the Roque Nublo Natural Monument.
This new mobility system is part of the new measures that the island institution will implement for managing access to the trail and the surroundings of this natural space.
The aim is to facilitate and promote the use of public transport to avoid the congestion of vehicles in the area and improve the safety and experience of visitors.
During the works, the car park located at the entrance to the path to visit Roque Nublo, in the area known as Degollada de la Goleta, will be closed, as it will become one of the stops for the shuttle buses and a car park for them. As a temporary alternative, parking will be possible in the recreational area of Los Llanos de la Pez. This space connects with the main access to Roque Nublo through a network of marked paths, which allow visitors to arrive on foot using different alternatives.
The work to be carried out by the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure will consist of preparing the platform of the current car park to house a shelter for the stop for the shuttle buses that will take visitors to the entrance to Nublo. For this purpose, it has a budget of 42.284 euros.
Previously, the Road Maintenance Service demolished the wall that separated this car park from the GC-600 roadway, leaving the space clear for the work that will begin next week.
After the completion of the works, a circular bus route operated by Global will be set up, with stops at key points such as the centre of Tejeda, Cruz de Tejeda, Cruz de los Llanos and car parks for visitors arriving in private vehicles. The fare will be the company's usual rate, with the option of using public transport passes and cards.
Additionally, an access control system will be established through online reservations, which will allow the number of people accessing the trail each hour to be organized and limited.
Although access will be free, this initiative seeks to guarantee a quality experience and the preservation of the environment. Residents of the municipalities of Artenara and Tejeda will be exempt from making a reservation, although they must present the basic documentation to be able to access whenever they wish.
The measures are aimed at protecting Roque Nublo and its natural surroundings and avoiding overcrowding in the Protected Natural Area, improving the quality of visits, as well as ensuring the safety of visitors and residents of nearby towns. The aim is to avoid roadblocks due to unauthorized parking on the sides of the road, guaranteeing free access for emergency services to the area and the rest of the region, if necessary.
Alternative access on foot
The shortest way to connect the parking area of the Llanos de la Pez recreational area and the Degollada de la Goleta, the main access to the Roque Nublo Natural Monument (C-21), is via the S 51 trail in an anti-clockwise direction (towards the north). This path can be done in about 35 minutes (Llanos de la Pez recreational area – Garañón – Presa de los Hornos – Deg. de la Goleta)
Due to its circular nature, this trail allows you to reach Nublo in 90 minutes if you travel in the opposite direction (Llanos de la Pez Recreation Area – Díaz Bertrana Mountain Refuge – Piedras Blancas District – Los Hornos District – El Montañón – La Goleta District).
The S 51.1 variant shortens the previous one and allows the route to be completed in 65 minutes. (Llanos de la Pez Recreation Area – Díaz Bertrana Mountain Refuge – Deg. de los Hornos – El Montañón – Deg. de la Goleta).
Finally, the last alternative is via the S 50 trail, which connects Tunte with the Cruz de Tejeda and, as it passes through the Summit, allows you to reach the Degollada de la Goleta. From the Llanos de la Pez car park, it takes about 50 minutes (Llanos de la Pez recreational area – Bailico camping area – Deg. de los Hornos – El Montañón – Deg. de la Goleta).
The times shown are estimates, calculated in the direction from the Llanos de la Pez recreational area to Deg. de la Goleta. If you follow the trails in the opposite direction, especially those that ascend Montañón to reach Degollada de los Hornos, the estimated time will be increased due to the topography.
