The chronicle of waste in the south of Gran Canaria continues to improve. It was in the media of Las Palmas where it was announced that there is now a replacement for the management that until now was carried out by Urbaser in the economic capital of the Canary Islands. The new manager is the peninsular company of Juan Martínez Motilla and Pedro Martínez Motilla.
The new management company is a pioneer in the import of paper and textile waste, exporting products to countries where no one had ever arrived from Spain, such as the United States of America, Japan, the United Kingdom and France. This led the founder Pedro Martínez Motilla to consider creating a corrugated cardboard factory in Las Palmas, creating Martínez Cano Canarias in the 70s.
Following its advance in the Canary Islands, the company opened warehouses in Alzira, Paterna, Cocentaina, Campello (Alicante), Madrid and, in 1985, in Alcalá de Guadáira (Seville). In 2003, all of its activities on the Peninsula were sold and the focus was limited to those developed in the Canary Islands. However, in 2012, the founders returned to their hometown, Alzira, with the construction of a packaging recycling plant, Clearpet. Perseverance has led the group to become a benchmark in the recovery and recycling sector.
In the Canary Islands, the Economic and Fiscal Regime of the Canary Islands (REF) includes a series of fiscal and economic incentives to promote businesses linked to waste, such as tax deductions in the Corporate Tax and the deduction for environmental investments, investments aimed at reducing, reusing or recycling waste, which have their tangible version in the deduction for facilities and equipment, that is, expenses in facilities as well as public aid in innovation projects in waste management and implementation of technology.
