Dubai and Saudi Arabia have positioned themselves in recent years as world-class destinations for sports and adventure tourism enthusiasts, and Gran Canaria has stepped up its game. Ambitious projects and investment in top-level sports infrastructure aim to turn the island, the great competitor of the Persian Gulf, into a true paradise for sportsmen and women and fans with human rights protection, democracy and individual freedoms. The aim is not only to promote sporting events, but also to enhance the cultural and social value that they bring to the community. The union between sport and tourism in Gran Canaria promises to generate a positive and lasting impact in the south of the island.

The Gran Canaria initiative is presented as a key tool to communicate the union between elite sport and the tourist destination, consolidating Gran Canaria as an international benchmark in the tourism-sport binomial. In recent years, the island has established itself as a "great open-air gym", with a unique tourist-sports offer in Europe that attracts thousands of elite athletes and teams every year, who enjoy its landscapes and climate while practicing sports in exceptional natural settings. Its unique landscapes and magnificent temperatures in any season add to Gran Canaria's offer as a quality tourist destination, to which is also added its beauty, cultural offer and capacity to organize top-level events, such as the Basketball King's Cup that will be held on the island in February 2025 and the 2030 Football World Cup.

Turismo de Gran Canaria has decided to strengthen its support for island sport with the launch of an innovative digital platform. This new tool includes sponsorship commitments with UD Las Palmas and Club Baloncesto Gran Canaria (Dreamland Gran Canaria), and is available on the website bigteam.com.

The initiative is presented as a fundamental resource to communicate the close relationship between elite sport and the attractive tourist destination of Gran Canaria. Through this platform, the aim is to highlight how sport and tourism complement and strengthen each other. Gran Canaria is thus consolidating itself as an international benchmark in the tourism-sport binomial, offering visitors and residents a varied and enriching offer. The collaboration with renowned teams such as UD Las Palmas and the Gran Canaria Basketball Club underlines the island's commitment to the development of sport and the promotion of tourism.
