Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez and Councillor for Sports, Ramón Suárez, meet with the main players in elite sport in San Bartolomé de Tirajana
Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez concluded this Wednesday the receptions for the elite clubs and athletes of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana who achieved outstanding results in official national and international competitions throughout the 2024 season.
More than fifty athletes from different categories and disciplines have participated in these meetings held over the last four weeks, and in a friendly and relaxed manner they have talked with the mayor and the Councillor for Sports, Ramón Suárez Ojeda, about competitive development and their new objectives, and even about their families, jobs and studies.
The profile that the protagonists of high-level sport have given to the mayor in these interviews reveals that the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana is making a significant name for itself in around fifteen sports disciplines, especially in rhythmic gymnastics and also in wrestling, contact sports and martial arts, but also in motocross, weightlifting, tennis, swimming, dance and ballroom dancing, dog training, windsurfing and paddle surfing, Olympic shooting, trail running, boxing, fitness and bodybuilding.
Santiago Hernández, fifth in the junior national motocross championship, third in the 125 cc enduro championship and runner-up in the Catalonia enduro, participated in the meetings with the mayor and the councillor for Sports. Antonio Aixel Ramírez Pérez, with 4 golds, one silver and 6 bronzes in Spanish and European championships, and Leonel Rodríguez Naranjo, with 5 silvers and one bronze in Spanish cups and championships, participated on behalf of the Bushican Judo Club.
In the practice of weightlifting, Martina López Gamberini, third in the National Technique Championship, and Mona Sjolie, who finished first in the European Master Championship, stand out at the Ubuntu Maspalomas Sports Club. The tennis player Andrada María Sofian Moldoveanu won the 1st Champions Bowl in Murcia, was runner-up in Croatia and came third in Barcelona and Valencia. The master swimmer Enrique Mata Díaz was double European champion in open waters at 1.500 and 3.000 metres, and also Spanish champion in the latter distance.
Representing the Agility Gran Canaria Sports Club, Salvador Silva was crowned Spanish champion of the Royal Canine Society of Spain (RSCE) in the senior category, and Minerva Rodríguez Sánchez was runner-up in Spain in the Cocker Cup and the RSCE. The dancers from the Vibrando Club, Héctor Rodríguez Sánchez and Sara Vancetti, were crowned Spanish champions in couple dancing (salsa, bachata, merengue, salsa and Caribbean dances), but in addition, Héctor Rodríguez was fourth in the World Federation of Dance Sport world championship in the bachata shine category, and Kaday Medrano Morales got third place in the Spanish bachata and salsa championship.
Among the most successful clubs in 2024 is the Arenas Corzas Maspalomas rhythmic gymnastics club. Its junior team was champion of the Spanish Cup, both in the general and in the final. The children's and benjamin teams were respectively bronze in the general and champions of Spain. In addition, the first category team was proclaimed champion of Spain in the general and also in the final. In the junior team, bronze in the final, Azahara was champion of Spain in the general ribbon; Inés was third in the rope final, and Cynthia was proclaimed champion in the hoop final. The seniors Dunia and Martina, runners-up in Spain, achieved promotion to the first category. Martina was proclaimed champion of Spain in clubs and ball and bronze in the finals as a team. Emilio Daniel also won bronze in the rope final in the men's individual at the Spanish Championship. Chynthia Ortega Guedes also received a scholarship from the National Rhythmic Gymnastics Team to participate with the Spanish team in the upcoming European and World Championships in 2025.
Father and son
The windsurfer Liam Dunkerber was proclaimed junior world champion under-21 and ninth in the ranking of the World Open. He was first in Chile, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Hawaii and Japan. From the Werdum Maspalomas martial arts club, the athletes who met with the mayor and the councillor for Sports were Evan Rivero, Spanish champion of full contact jiujitsu, double bronze in ground fighting in the Spanish and European championships, and also Spanish bronze in grappling. Iker Segura was gold and Spanish champion -60 kilos in combat jiu jitsu and ground fighting, and silver in the same category in the European Championship which he attended with the national team. The young Daniel Cabrera Portela was proclaimed champion of Spain and Europe in the -55 kilos and -60 kilos categories of full contact and ground fighting respectively; national runner-up -60 in ground and also won a bronze medal in the world championship in the close contact -60 category. The wrestlers Gabriel Roggendorf Campos and Benjamín Segura Ramírez were 1st and 3rd in the Spanish and European ground championships, the first, and double Spanish champion in ground and full contact and European champion in ground, the second. Segura Ramírez was also European runner-up in full contact, world champion in veterans in ground, and also world runner-up in adult in the same discipline. José Fernandéz was gold in full and bronze in ground at the Spanish Championship; double gold in close and ground, and also silver in full, at the European Championship; and triple silver in close, full and ground at the World Championship. And the wrestlers Iván Rodríguez Delgado and his son Iván Rodríguez San Agustín were in 2024, the father, runner-up in ground, close and full at the world jiu jitsu championship, and the son, champion of ground and full at the Spanish Championship.
Also participating in the meetings with the mayor were mountain and trail running athlete Elsa Padrón, runner-up in the Spanish masters 40 and third in the Spanish Reventón Classic Championship of 31 km; the shooter Aythami Santana, 2nd and 3rd in the Olympic Trench in the Spanish Championship; the paddle surfer Noah Díaz, Spanish under-12 champion in the long distance, sprints and beach race disciplines; the dog trainers Ramón Jorge Ortega Delgado and Francisco Javier Herrera Villanueva, from the GT Bocallena Club, with their dogs Bicho (Elton canem du fire) and Locky (Dumbar), Spanish champions in the CEPPB Mondioring G2 Cup, sixth in the World Championship in Verona (Italy), champions in G3 in Cartama (Málaga) and sixth in the Spanish Cup.
Marco Aurelio Pérez and Ramón Suárez also learned about the competitive experiences of boxer Fernando Rufino León Rodríguez, runner-up in Spain in the heavyweight category, and bodybuilder Valeria Verazzo, runner-up in Spain and third in the World Cup in the bikini fitness category; rhythmic gymnast from the Daisan Club, Nayade Pérez Castro, silver in hoop in the Iberdrola league; wrestler Victoria Isidro Lohbeck, and representatives of the Tablero Fundoshin Karate Club, Indira Zúñiga, Alejandro Badra and Grace Smith, who were: Indira, first in the national absolute ranking, bronze in the World Cup and gold in the National League final, silver in the National Team Championship and bronze in the Spanish senior category, as well as silver in the International A series; Alejandro, gold in the Canary Islands championship and bronze in the national league, and Grace, bronze in the national league final.
