The Department of Equality, headed by Elena Álamo Vega, wants to involve as many companies in the municipality as possible. The proposal even includes transfers to other municipalities or islands if necessary for the victims.

The Comprehensive Prevention and Care Service for Women and Minors of the Department of Equality of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council continues to incorporate companies from the municipality into its innovative project for the labour insertion of women victims of gender violence.

The two new business firms linked to the development of the municipality's tourism industry that have decided to join this initiative of the councillor led by the second deputy mayor Elena Álamo Vega and coordinated by the councillor Esther Delgado Sánchez are the Satocan Corporate SL Group and Meeting Point Hotelmanagement SL.

The collaboration agreements were ratified by the legal representatives of both entities, specifically by the CEO of Satocan, José Julio Artiles Moragas, and the Human Resources Director of Meeting Point, Yuban Martel Pérez.

The agreement signed by the companies and the City Council is binding for four years, although it can be renewed for another four years, and its objective is to establish the channels for the labour insertion of women victims of gender violence assisted by the services of the Department of Equality.

Meeting Point undertakes to forward available job offers to the Council and to fill four vacancies annually with women residents of the municipality, but also to transfer job offers from the company's hotels in other municipalities and islands in cases where victims of violence require a change of residence. In this situation, the company will even provide them with accommodation and food for a minimum of one month in the new town.

In the case of Satocan, in addition to forwarding available job offers, including those of the company's hotels in other municipalities, the company also undertakes to hold an employability workshop once a year for users of the Municipal Gender Violence Service.

In both agreements, the City Council undertakes to support the drafting or revision of the Equality Plan or protocol for action against gender violence in the establishments of the two companies, and to provide them with a guide of resources and tools to detect cases of gender violence and how to act in such a situation, differentiating the protocols for action with victims between clients and victims that may arise within the company's workforce. In addition, in the agreement with Meeting Point, the City Council undertakes to offer its employees awareness talks and training on equality every four months.

Neither of the two agreements entails any financial commitment for the City Council or the companies, although the latter may benefit fiscally from hiring women in accordance with Organic Law 1/2004 on Comprehensive Protection Measures against Gender Violence.

The Department of Equality began this project to integrate women victims of gender violence into the labour market with the collaboration of local companies on 25 June 2024, the date on which the first collaboration agreement was signed with the Princess hotel chain and its three establishments on the island, the Gran Canaria, Tabaiba and Maspalomas Princess hotels.

Elena Álamo Vega acknowledged on Thursday to the representatives of Meeting Point, Yuban Martel and Josué Pulido Monzón, responsible for the selection and training area of the company, that the Department of Equality is committed to involving as many companies as possible in this initiative, “because the labour insertion and economic independence of the users of the Comprehensive Care Service is one of the determining factors to escape situations of dependency and violence. Our objective is to improve the quality of life of the family units of women and minors affected”, she said.
