Pre-alert for rain in the south of Gran Canaria: significant accumulations, wind and risk of storms

Adverse weather conditions will mark the start of the week in the south of Gran Canaria. Moderate and locally intense rain is expected, accompanied by strong winds and possible storms, according to official AEMET forecasts.

The Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Emergencies, has declared the pre-alert situation due to rain in the south of Gran Canaria, effective from 00:00 hours on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, based on data provided by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

 

Weather forecast for the south of Gran Canaria

 

The AEMET anticipates light and moderate rainfall that it could be persistent In some areas, with accumulations of up to 15 mm in one hour. The rains will be unevenly distributed, with greater probability on the slopes north and west of the island, although they could spread to other areas in the south.

 

Not ruled out locally heavy showers nor stormy episodes in high and exposed areas. Likewise, there are forecasts southwesterly winds, generally moderate, which could intensify in the southern peaks and coasts.

 

The maximum temperatures will range between 21 ° C and 23 ° C, while the minimum temperatures will be around 14°C in coastal areas.
