Hundreds of curious people gathered at the IFEMA Fairgrounds in Madrid, around the Drag Queen Armek, attracted by the extravagant and colorful presence of the winner of the Maspalomas International Carnival 2023. The promotional action carried out by the Department of Tourism of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council brought the spirit of the Carnival to the epicenter of International Tourism during the Fitur 2025 Fair. The initiative achieved the desired objective, bringing the most emblematic festival in the south of Gran Canaria to the national tourist.
The action continued on the screens of the Callao Cinema, which became the perfect setting for this campaign, projecting images of paradisiacal landscapes and the vibrant atmosphere of the carnival, inviting passers-by to experience “Carnival, Sun and Sand. Feel Maspalomas”.
The Councillor for Tourism, Yilenia Vega, said about the objective of the campaign: “We want the national tourist to touch, feel and vibrate with our Carnival. Our intention is to awaken their curiosity and, with it, the desire to visit our island to enjoy this unique celebration.” Coinciding with the International Tourism Fair (Fitur 2025), which is held from January 22 to 26, this strategy seeks to position Maspalomas as a destination that combines fun, culture and nature.
The promotional action, which will run until January 28, includes the broadcast of 10-second videos every five minutes on two giant screens at the Callao Cinema. “In total, the video will be shown 336 times a day, achieving a high number of views among the thousands of passers-by who frequent this strategic point in Madrid.” Vega added that an extraordinary visual impact is expected, with an estimated 18.858.599 advertising impacts during the week.

Tourism growth and development
The campaign responds to a sustained growth in the arrival of national tourists to Gran Canaria, which rose from 45.000 in March 2023 to 47.000 in 2024. “It is crucial to continue highlighting and promoting our Carnival to break the seasonality and attract visitors throughout the year,” said Vega. “Offering a complementary offer that combines sun and beach with unique cultural experiences positions us as a destination that tourists will want to rediscover again and again.”
Within the framework of this campaign, Yilenia Vega underlined the commitment of the Department of Tourism to the modernisation and improvement of the tourist destination, as well as the commitment to promoting our destination and recalled that throughout this legislature a total of 1,2 million euros will be invested in different promotional actions. The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, was also present at this action, together with the first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marichal, and the councillor for Culture, Elena Álamo, accompanied by Drag Armek. The presence of the winner of the 2023 Maspalomas International Carnival in the centre of Madrid was an added attraction that did not leave attendees indifferent.
