The 'Valientes en Movimiento' program integrates physical activity into the lives of minors undergoing cancer treatment and their families, strengthening their physical and emotional well-being
The Gran Canaria Island Institute of Sports (IID) has developed, together with the Pequeño Valiente Foundation, the “Valientes en Movimiento” program, aimed at girls, boys and adolescents undergoing cancer treatment and their families. The agreement with the foundation, signed in 2022 and valid until 2026, aims to promote physical activity as a tool to improve the quality of life and comprehensive well-being of both minors undergoing cancer treatment and their families.
During 2024, the program has included various sports and recreational activities, such as yoga sessions, hydrotherapy, psychomotor skills, hiking trails, physical well-being workshops and summer camps. Special events and group activities have also been held to encourage social interaction and shared enjoyment among participants.
The programme has had the participation of 57 minors and their families, who have been able to benefit from an environment designed to integrate sport and movement into their daily lives.
In 2024, the Insular Institute of Sports allocated 84.588,24 euros to the development of this program, covering the costs associated with technical staff, sports activities, events and necessary materials. Since the beginning of the agreement, the total contribution made amounts to 221.470,60 euros.
The Councillor for Sports of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Aridany Romero, praised the agreement reached with the foundation and highlighted the importance of physical activity among minors undergoing cancer treatment and their families. Romero also expressed his satisfaction with the development of the agreement over the last two years.
For his part, the president of the foundation, José Jerez, positively valued the agreement with the Insular Institute of Sports; “we are very happy and grateful to renew this agreement and to be able to see the faces of the children and their families when they enjoy the physical activity and sports services that we offer together with the Insular Institute of Sports,” said Jerez.
The agreement establishes a collaboration for a total of four years, with a planned global investment of 338.352,96 euros by the IID, complemented by 34.752,08 euros contributed by the Pequeño Valiente Foundation. These resources are distributed in actions aimed at promoting sport, adapted physical activities, educational events and talks.
For 2025, the agreement will continue with a total investment of 93.276,26 euros, of which 84.588,24 euros will be covered by the IID. The agreement will continue its development until 2026, expanding the scope of its activities and reinforcing its commitment to promoting physical and emotional health through physical activity.
