The latest crime figures in the south of Gran Canaria

How is it possible that there are almost the same number of sexual assaults with penetration in San Bartolomé de Tirajana as in Mogán? This is indicated by the data provided to Maspalomas24H by the Ministry of the Interior. The south of Gran Canaria has recorded a total of 3.352 criminal offences during the last period analysed, according to the most recent data. This figure reflects an increase in the crime rate in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, especially with regard to sexual crimes and robberies. The latest official data points to 35 complaints for crimes against sexual freedom 35, five sexual assaults with penetration and 30 crimes against sexual freedom. The increase in crimes against sexual freedom stands out, with a total of 35 cases, of which 5 correspond to sexual assaults with penetration. Likewise, robberies with violence and intimidation and burglaries in homes have experienced a significant increase, with 88 and 88 cases respectively. On the other hand, theft remains the most common crime, with 1.314 cases recorded.

 

In the municipality of Mogán, conventional crime has shown worrying figures during the last year, with a total of 1.331 offences. These crimes include 1 consummated wilful homicide and 1 attempted homicide, 10 serious and less serious crimes of injuries and rioting, and 14 crimes against sexual freedom, of which 4 were sexual assaults with penetration. In addition, 13 robberies with violence and intimidation were recorded, 46 robberies with force in homes, establishments and other facilities, and 539 thefts. 6 vehicle thefts and 11 cases of drug trafficking were also reported. The rest of conventional crime totalled 690 offences. As for cybercrime, Mogán recorded a total of 94 criminal offences. Of these, 87 were computer fraud and 7 other cybercrimes. Overall, the total number of criminal offences in Mogán reached 1.425, underlining the need for more effective prevention and security measures to ensure the well-being of residents and visitors to the region.

 

Cybercrime in Tirajana has also seen an increase, with 284 criminal offences, with computer fraud being the most frequent crime within this category. Despite this general increase, it is important to highlight that the National and Local Police maintain an operational deployment to combat crime and guarantee the safety of citizens. Of these, 3.068 correspond to conventional crime, while 284 are related to cybercrime. This municipality, known for its influx of visitors and its economic dynamism, faces growing challenges in terms of public safety, especially in crimes against property and sexual freedom. In the area of ​​conventional crimes, thefts represented 38% of the offences, with 1.314 cases reported. 

 

Burglaries in homes, establishments and other facilities amounted to 88 reports, of which 45 took place in private homes. On the other hand, robberies with violence and intimidation amounted to 88 incidents, while 35 crimes against sexual freedom were recorded, of which five were sexual assaults with penetration. Cybercrime in Maspalomas also presents worrying figures, with 284 offences recorded. Computer fraud represents the majority of these cases, reaching a total of 249 incidents, followed by other cybercrimes, which totalled 35. The increase in cybercrime reflects the impact of digitalisation on criminal activities, highlighting the need for specific strategies to combat them.
