Its construction with FEDER funds is one of the four actions included in the Strategic Plan for Integrated Development for this town that Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez presented to the residents on Monday.
The urban centre of El Tablero will have a new, modern multipurpose cultural auditorium for 400 people and a two-storey underground car park, with facilities intended to house workshops and classrooms for the artistic disciplines and the various associations and groups of the town.
The building, which will cover the need for a larger venue for cultural events, is part of the Local Integrated Development Strategic Plan (EDIL) for El Tablero that the Department of the Presidency and Local Development headed by Elena Álamo Vega is finalising to present it with many financing options to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
This cultural project, and the other two remaining ones that form part of this plan, were presented by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez on Monday evening at an information day for the town's neighbourhood groups. He stated that the funding requested for the actions of this plan amounts to some 9 million euros.
The mayor recalled that in 2017-2018 the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council submitted a request to the European fund for funding for other projects that were approved and subsidized with almost 15 million euros "but the vicissitudes meant that this money was not spent in the municipality. Now we are going to try again without building castles in the air," he said.
The construction of the building, for which 4,4 million euros are requested, will take place in the vicinity of the current Carmelo Pérez Rodríguez Cultural Centre, right on the plot now occupied by the old school classrooms in Plaza de Pepe El Barbero. Its roof will be planted with vegetation to improve thermal and acoustic insulation and it will be surrounded by a small park. The project includes the construction of a two-storey car park in the basement of the entire square and the cultural building to connect the entrances and exits of the building through Venezuela and Avenida del Barranco streets, and to facilitate the attendance and participation of local residents in cultural activities.
The general proposal, which could be put out to tender in 2025, also includes the execution of a pilot project for a biosolar roof for the production of clean and renewable energy on the roof of the El Pilar Senior Citizens Centre, at a cost of 100.000 euros.
Street improvement
In addition to this cultural project, the Integrated Strategic Development Plan for El Tablero includes other important actions in the same population centre. Specifically, the improvement of the connection and revitalization of street infrastructure with an approximate budget of 4,8 million euros.
These interventions are aimed at the comprehensive renovation of public lighting with highly efficient intelligent systems and remote management; the improvement of the sewerage and wastewater pipes in the homes of the Los Balcones Urbanization; the installation of the necessary infrastructure for the laying of optical fiber and the renovation and landscaping of the site of the self-compactor that provides service on Avenida del Barranco.

Marco Aurelio Pérez also explained that this EDIL Plan also requests €200.000 for the revitalization of the central commercial area of El Tablero and the management of public events by small and medium-sized businesses to attract customers to it.
