The commercial court of Las Palmas has appointed Jorge Rodríguez Ruiz as bankruptcy administrator of Vital Ocio, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, which manages tourist entertainment services in the south of Gran Canaria. In 2023 it had a turnover of 5,9 million and recorded losses before taxes of 352.000 euros, according to Atlántico Hoy. Its managers are Ángel Villafranca Salor, Francisco Muntañola Guerra and Manuel Banús Ariet. The headquarters of Vital Ocio are located at Avenida de las Américas number 31, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The entity is part of the Vital Ocio & Look Up Gestión group. Its clientele is made up of communities of owners, hotel chains and town councils.
This Tuesday, a group of employees, who did not want to provide their location information due to alleged reprisals, sent a statement to Maspalomas24H denouncing "non-payment of salaries" by Vital Ocio "and delays" with Look UP. "Lies after lies, the owner is not here and is not expected, he never shows his face. We have tried to contact the company committee that exists today so that they could tell us something about what was happening and we have only had silence as a response." The salary that this company, which operates between the Canary Islands and Mallorca, usually pays is with a contract of 40 hours a week plus two days off with food and accommodation included for 1.200 euros net for entertainers and 1.300 euros net for group leaders, with English being essential.
These workers complain that "the solutions we have are to continue working for free (some colleagues have not been paid for months) and to tell the hotels about the kind of company they have hired and that they are not complying with the contract, to go to the doctor and ask for sick leave because this situation for so many months ends up affecting the family environment and economy." "We want to denounce this abuse that we are experiencing and the irregularities that have been committed by the companies during the last 8 months. Everything has a limit and they are playing with our health, time invested in work and with our fairly earned money. We have fulfilled our part and it is the companies that are breaching the contract."
