A Canarian court is investigating the causes of the injuries suffered by the baby of Anabel Pantoja and David Rodríguez when she was admitted to the Maternal and Child Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The parents have declared before the judicial authority as defendants. The Court of Las Palmas has withdrawn from the case, transferring it to the Courts of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, where the suspects reside. The investigation is still ongoing, although no precautionary measures have been taken regarding the suspects or regarding the guardianship of the baby. The court is investigating a possible crime of child abuse based on a report sent by the hospital on January 17 and confirmed by a forensic medical expert.
The High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands confirmed on Thursday that proceedings have been opened to clarify the facts, without specifically mentioning the names of the parents. The opening of the investigation was announced after the newspaper 'Canarias 7' reported that Anabel Pantoja and David Rodríguez appeared before the judge due to the circumstances of their daughter, who was hospitalized for two weeks, from January 11 to 27.
According to the court's statement sent to Maspalomas24H, the parents gave their statements on Monday, January 27 with the assistance of their lawyers and as suspects, but were not arrested at any time. In a post on Instagram, Anabel Pantoja stated that her daughter "is at home with her parents, healthy and happy" and described the situation as "unfair" and "very unpleasant." She said she had received messages from many parents with similar cases and assured that they had told the judge "the only truth."
She explained that her daughter suffered a crisis on January 9th for which she was taken to the hospital, where "everything went well and we are at home." Afterwards, a routine protocol was activated which caused them great concern, since, according to her, all they have done is "love, care for, try to save and protect" the girl.
