Lucía Jiménez: “After 40 years, this development will be able to remedy its structural deficiencies, improve residential quality and the well-being of its residents”
Alejandro Marichal: “In a year and a half we have started, with an investment of 13,8 million, the rehabilitation of the Ifa Group and El Pajar, and the renovation works of the Castillo del Romeral, Las Llaves and La Paz”
The Department of Housing of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, in collaboration with GESVISUR, has met with the residents and owners of the 106 houses in Castillo del Romeral to present them with the comprehensive rehabilitation project for the development. “The main objective of this initiative is to improve the quality and sustainability of the residential fabric, restore the functionality of the neighbourhood and contribute to the well-being of the residents,” announced the Housing Councillor, Lucía Jiménez.
The homes, built in 1983 and distributed in 11 residential blocks, will undergo a structural and energy reform that will allow for increased security, accessibility and efficiency of the buildings. The Councillor for Housing stressed that “after 40 years, this development will be able to remedy its structural deficiencies, thereby improving the quality of life of the residents.” Jiménez also stressed that the work to be carried out will mean “an improvement in the quality of this residential area, as well as for our neighbours, who will not only see the structures of their homes rehabilitated, but also the environment that surrounds them.”
The planned actions include waterproofing roofs, repairing façades, updating carpentry and service networks, replacing interior lighting with LED technology, as well as installing accessible railings and ramps to improve residents' mobility.
The renovation work has been awarded to the company Pinturas y Reformas Montelongo, through the Public Sector Contracting Platform, with a final budget of 517.304,77 euros, which represents a reduction of 21,60% compared to the base tender budget, set at 659.827,51 euros. Of this amount, the Department of Housing has provided 51% of the financing, with the Gran Canaria Housing Consortium assuming the remaining 41%.
The first deputy mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Alejandro Marichal, highlighted the commitment of the Department of Housing to the rehabilitation of the existing housing stock, a priority objective since the beginning of the legislature. In this regard, he recalled that the Department of Housing "in a year and a half has launched, with an investment of 13,8 million, the rehabilitation of the Ifa Group and El Pajar, as well as the reform and execution projects in the 106 homes of Castillo del Romeral, Las Llaves and La Paz". In addition, he stressed that the rehabilitation program is one of the four pillars of the SBT 2023-2024 Housing Plan, together with the public promotion of housing, for which in December 2023 it was agreed to transfer 35 million euros to Visocan. "The money allocated to the Housing Plan is around 50 million euros in total between the City Council's own contributions and those formalized with other public administrations," said Marichal.
The project to rehabilitate the 106 homes in Castillo del Romeral will take an estimated six months and will guarantee greater structural safety, accessibility and energy sustainability. It will also contribute to improving the urban environment, reaffirming the Department of Housing's commitment to the well-being of citizens and the modernisation of the municipality's residential spaces.
